So beautiful, and an incredible opportunity, memory, and experience in all ways.

But also astounding in its gift of contrasting unexpected perspective.

Don’t get us wrong. It was thrilling to go.

But we never could have anticipated the shadow of the mountain.

In Tibet you now can only be bussed up to Everest base camp (Chinese rule) so most tourists come for the “triumphant” pic and then leave that day.

As you can see from the photo, it was exhilarating and SO special when we woke up the morning after arriving to find the entire place to ourselves.

We shot a few meditation videos and took photos that we will cherish forever.

We breathed with difficulty through oxygen canisters, into our half-capable lungs.

Smiling and dizzy. Euphoric.

We will always thank our lucky stars for such a uniquely beautiful moment in time….

But soon enough, hearing the story of the Chinese government moving base camp 5 kilometres down the mountain to the monastery, because of too much tourist trash… started our minds off on an unexpected path.

Sucking On Oxygen Canister’s on Tibet Everest!

And then to also hear that this move happened suspiciously right after an incident where American tourists flew the banished Tibetan flag on the side of another mountain somewhere nearby (a grave mistake that landed their tour guides ‘disappeared’/imprisoned).

What more is that government seemed to aggressively respond to the incident with heightened foreign travel restrictions, more military checkpoints, and a new drastically contained military monitored area for foreigners to observe Everest from.

Being there felt like a strange sort of aquarium of sorts.

One to watch the mountain from, while all the while being watched yourself.

Like a two-way mirror in a wild and beautiful psych ward… all the while being warned incessantly not to try anything funny.

Contained. And obeyed.

This isn’t far off course though for Tibet’s occupied 2nd half of the 20th century.

It’s right out of the playbook of 60 years of hanging flags on every light post, commandeering control of an entire religious organization after nearly wiping it out, and reminding the world constantly that it’s “a peaceful occupation” in an “autonomous” region.

And of course, never speaking of the millions of unarmed Tibetans who died in the transition to “peace” and “economic liberation”, or that its current citizens have and never will be allowed to cross their own border into any foreign land again.

It’s no longer common knowledge really. Which is surprising and sad at the same time.

But even beyond the uncomfortable political grip, our seclusion amidst such wild beauty was also matched with another eerie feeling.

One that lead us to an astounding realization that we did not expect…

While in Tibet you are constantly surrounded by opportunities to experience natural sacred places of beautiful landscape which are some of mother nature’s most breathtaking artistic creations.

Tibet is referred to as the ceiling of the planet…  as it’s by far the highest possible place you can travel on earth.

And so many of it’s most beautiful spots have so much spiritual, historic, and religious significance to Tibetans and many different faiths abroad.

It’s almost as though an external magic surrounds the land, causing visitors to naturally expand internally.

Everest on the other hand…

When we asked about its story, is nothing more than a story of it being the biggest, the highest, the hardest.

Unlike the other choras or pilgrimages in Tibet, this mountain summons people only to witness mother nature’s ability to create something so massive… and to conquer it.

And then it immediately hit us, this was why we were there too.

For a bucket list check mark, and very little more. Because it was on the top ten Tibetan things list or some equivalent blog post.

This helped us to understand that following the crowd doesn’t always come with great reward or meaning.

Sometimes it just comes with being able to tell others you did it or saw it, and not much more.

Strange.

Cause it too helped us question so much of our selves and our motives and intention for everywhere we go and their reasons.

That was an unexpected gift. 

The motivation of being able to tell others you ‘did something’ or ‘saw a thing’, is empty.

Strange. Humbling.

And as I write this post, I even feel the irony creeping in, telling you we were there in the first place.

There is hypocrisy and irony in almost everything if you look close enough. sigh*

Finally on this journey of understanding, we learned that the climb up the Tibetan side of Everest takes many more lives than the Nepali side.

So while exploring this empty feeling which had so far permeated our experience, we saw this extended.

Through a solemn silence, which had been quietly present since our arrival. A flat, lifeless energy. In the air.

Like the eerie silence of a graveyard.

We connected this silence with all the lives taken too early…

We saw how the risk for each loss was completely voluntary.

Even at that altitude, we too were risking our hearts.

For the check mark, and belt notch. The years to come, the moments with loved ones, the gift of life, risked.

And if lost, what would it have been for?

Ego.

So many mixed feelings.

So many thoughts to meditate on, for a long time to come.

Thank you for the gifts Everest. We will never forget.

THE FIVE ELEMENTS

 

Earlier (right here), we spoke about the presence of the elements within each one of us, and how each of these fundamental energies offers us the incredible opportunity to heal, and to grow.

Each element represents a state of matter within Mother Nature. Intuitively, Earth is solid, Water is liquid and Air is gas. Fire, is the state of transformation between two states – and Space, holds all of the above.

From solid, we now move to liquid.

Let’s explore the second element…

 

THE WATER ELEMENT

 

‘To understand water is to understand the cosmos, the marvels of nature and life itself.’

– MASARU EMOTO

 

Water: the element of movement, feminine energy, feeling, forgiveness and cleansing.

Water is emotion.

Water is fluid. It has no shape of its own but rather follows the shape of the earth below it, or what holds it.

We can look at our physical bodies as the incredible earthen containers of the fluid essence that flows through them, our emotions.

Our structure provides shape, but water is what fills that structure… allowing it to flow and to change. Like water, we too must learn to let our energy flow, yield, cleanse, change, and release. After all, 60% of each one of us is made up of this beautiful element.

EMOTION

 

‘Your heart is the size of an ocean. Go find yourself hidden it its depths.’

– RUMI

 

Our emotions are quite simply the movement of energy within our bodies: energy in motion.

As awareness enters the bodies, it creates a subtle emotional reaction. In reverse, we could also say that emotions are the most physical aspect of our awareness. Have you ever noticed, how you can sometimes feel something before you mentally know it?

We feel the water element’s duality in our emotional fluctuations. That is to say…we range from happy to sad, inspired to discouraged, and so on.

It’s so important, and natural, that we feel a full range of emotions. We want to be able to feel both polarities, yet be centered and balanced within their range. If we are only able to experience one side, then we become emotionally unbalanced. On the other hand, if we are so caught up in the fluctuations that we cannot feel the centre, we lose our sense of self… becoming victims of our own emotional flow.

To prevent either of these cases, we must simply embrace the polarities, feel our emotions, and express ourselves freely – without losing connection to our own centre.

The centre of these polarities is the place of peace, where we can surrender, and truly let go. It forms the basis for our power, the energy that arises with the next incredible element: Fire.

Surrendering to the flow of the Universe, seems like an easy task when you feel at peace. However, it’s hard to say the same during those moments when we’re faced with challenge and obstacles. It’s not easy to give up control, though we do it more often than we think. Each time we accept a prescription, or fulfil all kinds of social obligations, to name a few.
We practice this motion of surrender constantly in our daily lives, so why when it comes to trusting the Universe, the Divine Energy that guides us all… do we hesitate? ⁣
It’s might be hard to fathom one all-connecting beautiful energy (whatever name you wish to call it) that guides us all along this path of existence. But the fact is, that whether we chose to believe or not… either way we are right. Because our perception truly does become our reality.

It’s up to us to decide whether to surrender to our guided path of growth and evolution, or to fight against the current, grabbing hold and struggling with everything that may be there to challenge us. It’s just a choice. ⁣

So, as we make peace with our past and face our fears of the future, remember it truly is up to us to decide the direction of our present moment. We cannot connect the dots looking forward, we can only connect them as we look back – so we must allow ourselves to trust in every experience that presents itself… to know it’s there for a reason, whether we know what that is, or not. ⁣

PRACTICE

For us, there’s something about the oceans, lakes, and rivers that call to us no matter where we are. Near water we can find a calming and peaceful vibration when we close our eyes and breath steady. As if we are a part of it. We seem to always take a moment after each shoot day or trip as a whole to reconnect through water. To realign and recharge.

In yoga, by channelling the water element through fluid movement and deep release,  we remove blocked and  stagnant negative energy from our bodies.

We have recently posted an Element Series yoga class on YouTube, focused on the Water element. If the above resonated with you, or you are feeling disconnected with your emotions, I encourage you to try this class.

A fluid Vinyasa Flow, this class is perfect for getting the body moving and flowing, using the pranayama practice of Ujayi breath, to mirror the sound of the ocean with each exhalation.

Upon these exhalations, let go of any negative energy, and all that no longer serves you. Welcome beautiful and radiant positive energy with each new breath. Focus, let go, and enjoy the flow.

Welcome to your 14 Day Define & Sculpt Your Legs Challenge that will allow you to fine tone every area of your lower body to give you incredible results.

For the next 14 days, you will be given a combination of 2 yoga workout and pilates classes to complete on a daily basis. One of the classes will be the new 10 minute lower body toning class and the other will be a variation of either a yoga workout class or Pilates toning workout to allow you to take the results to the next level.  Each day’s classes will add up to be about 30-45 minutes of toning, sculpting, and strengthening workouts for the glutes, inner, and outer thighs.  As you move through each workout remember to always listen to your body and be patient with yourself. At first you will begin to feel muscle fatigue at a faster rate than usual, however as you work through these exercises on a daily basis you will notice that your muscles begin to become stronger and stronger with time. With Pilates toning exercises, you are able to focus on those hard to reach muscles which will in the end help you find that beautiful definition in your inner, outer thighs and glutes. So push yourself through the pain, be patient, and have fun.

GUIDELINES FOR THE TWO WEEKS:

♥ If your body needs a day off or you need to split the two videos into 2 days, thats totally fine! Listen to your body, that’s the key.

♥ Drink at least 2 L of water per day. Add some lemon, or fruit to your water to make it a treat!

♥ Include at least one dark green leafy salad, steamed greens, and/or fresh green juice per day.

♥ Do your best to get as close to 8 hours of sleep per night as you can so your muscles have time to recover and rest.

♥ Try to limit the amount of processed and sugary food you eat. Fill your fridge with lots of fruits, veggies.

Welcome to your 14 Day Splits & Flexibility Challenge that will release tension and stiffness out of your lower body as well as help you attain that full leg split position!

For the next 14 days, you will be given a combination of 2 yoga classes to complete on a daily basis. One of the classes will be the new 15 minute flexibility practice and the other will be a variation of either a yin yoga class to allow you to deeply release the body’s connective tissues or a gentle yoga flow that will leave you feeling re-energized and balanced.  Each day’s classes will add up to be 30-45 minutes of deep stretching and muscle releasing practice. As you move through this practice remember to always listen to your body and be patient with yourself. If you feel any sharp or shooting pain, let that be a sign from your body telling you to come out or ease up on the pose. Increasing flexibility takes a lot of time and patience so make sure you are never forcing anything but simply breathing and relaxing deeper and deeper into each pose. With time the flexibility will come, so be patient and loving with your body along the way. As you find patience and dedication within yourself and truly dedicate yourself to getting on the mat every single day for the next two weeks, I promise you will see and feel incredible results in your lower body.

So good luck and most of all… have fun!

THE FIVE ELEMENTS

 

‘The happiest man is he who learns from nature the lesson of worship.’

– RALPH WALDO EMERSON

When we look at our personal connections with the five natural elements, it’s truly incredible to see how we are each so deeply connected to Mother Earth.

In Ayurveda and many other ancient schools of thought, it is believed that everything in and of our universe is made up of the five elements: Earth, Fire, Water, Air and Space.

This includes each one us. We see the five elements in each of our bodies: there is Earth, in our bones and minerals. Fire, in the electricity and heat that we produce. Air constantly flows through us with each beautiful breath of life, as does water, in our fluids and our blood. Space or ‘Ether,’ is what contains all of the above, within us.

Understanding these elements can help us understand the laws of nature. It can also help us to better understand our true selves.
It is believed that if any element within us is impure or out of balance with the others, disease and suffering can occur.

So, to avoid this from happening, we must simply take the time each day to notice and cultivate these incredible elemental forces, within our bodies and minds.

Today, let’s start with the Earth element.

 

 

 

EARTH ELEMENT

‘Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.’

Earth: the first element. Stability, grounding and strength. Industriousness. Grit. Solid matter. Feminine energy.

The earth element is our foundation, our bodies and our survival. By cultivating earth energy we ground ourselves, allowing us to find a sense of place within our body, and the world.

Through building and maintaining a strong foundation of Earth within ourselves, we are fully supported as the other elemental energies later introduce movement.

Earth energy is the beginning. It is our roots.

To grow beautiful, healthy and tall, trees must grow sturdy roots which stretch deep into rich soil. We too must feel safe and supported, in order to grow.

Just as roots grow downward, the earth element is one of downward moving energy: down our spines, our legs and feet, down into our past and our ancestral roots.

By creating deep roots, a healthy body and a strong sense of self, we become grounded in ourselves, wherever our journeys may take us.

 

GOING INWARD 

‘If nature is your teacher, your soul will awaken.’

– GOETHE

 

The earth element represents the densest and heaviest form of matter, and it is ruled by gravity.

On our planet, we experience this as a downward pull.

But if we take a second to widen our perspective, we can see that gravity is actually drawing matter towards the earth’s core from all sides; gravity, in terms of the Earth element, is an inward pull toward the centre.

Weather it is walking bare foot, digging our fingers into the sand, or ground based asanas with deep slow breathing – ⁣⁣⁣ Mother Earth encourages us to go inward and centre ourselves.

We become fully present by connecting to her through our senses, getting out of our heads and enhancing a deeper connection with our physical body… our vehicle for life.

 

  

IMBALANCE

 

‘Do not be afraid to suffer. Give your heaviness back to the weight of the earth.’

– RILKE

 

Imbalance within any of the elemental energies within us can manifest as either excess or deficiency. When they are aligned, our energy is balanced. When they are not… we can experience disease, stress and stagnation of negative emotions.

Thankfully, we are given the opportunity for deep healing when we acknowledge the elements and recognise whether or not we are in touch with these fundamental energies.

A disconnection with the Earth element means we are not fully present within the body, causing a sense of being out of touch with the physical and natural world.

Without Earth energy, we cannot develop the support, containment, or solidity for our own needs. For me, this most often manifests as feeling spacey or scattered. We might also move towards patterns like irrational fear, poor personal boundaries or an inability to focus.

It is so important that we incorporate the work of deep grounding with the earth element, as part of our everyday lives.

EARTH ELEMENT PRACTICE

 

‘Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet.’

There are many ways to ground and connect with the Earth element. It can be as simple as focusing your attention on the heaviness of your body weighing on Mother Earth, feeling how you are always totally supported by her.

In yoga, by connecting the body and mind through movement and breath, we allow ourselves to purify these elements, restore balance, and to unfold the inner powers and abilities present within each element.

Welcome to the 14 Day Booty Challenge that will tone, lift, and sculpt every area of your glutes!

For the next 14 days, you will be given a combination of 2 classes to complete on a daily basis. One of the classes will be the new 1o minute booty workout class and the other will be a variation of either another lower body workout or a yoga workout practice that will leave your entire body feeling challenged and amazing.  Each day’s classes will add up to be 20-45 minutes of exercise per day which when combined with a healthy diet will give you amazing results in your booty, legs, and entire body. So good luck and most of all… have fun!

 

GUIDELINES FOR THE TWO WEEKS:

♥ If your body needs a day off or you need to split the two videos into 2 days, thats totally fine! Listen to your body, that’s the key.

♥ Drink at least 2 L of water per day. Add some lemon, or fruit to your water to make it a treat!

♥ Include at least one dark green leafy salad, steamed greens, and/or fresh green juice per day.

♥ Do your best to get as close to 8 hours of sleep per night as you can so your muscles have time to recover and rest.

♥ Try to limit the amount of processed and sugary food you eat. Fill your fridge with lots of fruits, veggies.

What is Boho Beautiful Transform About?

This is not just a resolution, this is a transformation.

Boho Beautiful Transform” is a cutting edge mat based workout program that has been carefully designed for results like never before.  The entire program has been meticulously sequences into a 14 day structure in order to provide incredible results from the inside out. So, for two weeks, each day you will be switching from a cardio workout to a toning strengthening class to allow your body not only an opportunity to boost your metabolism and increase fat loss but also tone and lean out every muscle in your body. At the end of each week you will be rewarded with an hour long rejuvenating and relaxing yoga class that will help you release any muscle tension and soreness from the intense workouts.

Welcome to our 7 Day Cardio Challenge! In the next 7 days your goal will be to push and challenge your strength, stamina. and patience like never before. Remember, you are exactly where you need to be in your own personal fitness journey, so cater this challenge to your own body and strength. If you need to pause the video mid way to take a break, do so. If you need to do only the 1 round through for the whole week, do that as well. No matter what modifications you take, as long as you get through it at your own level, consider that a successful challenge! As you succeed through each day, you will begin to notice that the class gets easier which in truth isn’t the case…it is only YOU who is getting stronger. So if you’re ready to boost your metabolism, burn fat, and get yourself feeling amazing get on that mat and press play! 

How This Challenge Works:

For the next 7 days, you will be given a combination of classes to complete. One of the classes will be the new cardio class and the other will be a different toning and yoga classes that will allow you to tone, sculpt, and create definition in your body.
